                                                                                ***TM & Patent Pending

Make a huge dent in your heating bills by building your own solar heating panel.

                                                                                 Time-tested design.

This is the bare bones look on the left , but works as well as units offered for $3000 . On the right is a higher end version with a metal frame and flat polycarbonate sheets. This will cost you a few hundred dollars more. They both work equally well. The extra supplies you will need for the one on the left will cost under $100. The one on the right about an extra $300.Total cost $400-$500. About 1/4 of anything else on the market, but this is DIY(Do it Yourself).

        • Simple – no electrical or plumbing hookups needed, no maintenance required
            • Affordable – costs less than 30 gallons of heating oil at today's prices
            • Very fast payback – unlike complex high-tech systems, pays for itself in as little as one heating season
            • Effective – delivers output temperatures up to 140o F

Each kit, together with the lumber and glazing purchased at your local hardware store and labor you provide, gives you everything you need to assemble and install a 4'x8' solar heater.

We provide:
       • Instructions and parts list
       • Aluminum mesh collector plate, vent templates, airflow flapper valves, fasteners, and hardware cloth
       • Telephone and e-mail support.

THE LOOK

The picture above spares nothing for effeciency, but you can dress it up as much as you would like. Flat panels are avaible. Oak and Maple framing or metal frames are also available. You buy these yourself and are available everywhere. You won't change the effectiveness, but you can make it look more high tech.

Low-tech solar space heaters use sunlight as fuel during clear winter days.
FreeHeat solar space heaters pay for themselves quickly. Compared with using gas, electricity, or oil heaters, they will produce substantial savings year after year when properly installed on a southerly facing wall that gets unobstructed sunlight.

These heaters are intended only for use as supplemental space heaters. While the sun shines, they produce lots of heat and will warm insulated spaces.  To place an order, obtain support, or get more

HOW IT WORKS

The thermosiphon collector consists of clear, corrugated polycarbonate panels fastened to 2-by-6-inch studs. The clear panels admit sunlight, and an absorber suspended inside the collector captures the sun’s heat energy. The air around the absorber warms, expands and rises, creating a convection current. Vents at the top and bottom of the collector allow air to circulate through it. Cool air enters the lower vents from the interior, is heated by the absorber, rises to the upper vents and returns to the    interior. Air circulation continues as long as the sun shines on the collector.

At night, airflow reverses as air in the collector cools to outside temperatures. Simple flapper valves on the top vents stop this reverse circulation and keep the heat inside.

To estimate the size of a FreeHeat Solar Collector array that would work for you, divide the number of square feet you want to heat by 10.  For example, a well-insulated 1200 square foot house would need 120 square feet of collector surface.
